Stepping Back to Move Forward
If your life is like mine, it always feels like it’s moving really fast. And when the speed of our lives increases, it can be so easy to constantly go from one thing to the next without ever stopping to consider whether we should still be doing all of these things that keep us so busy.
Do you have rhythms or practices that help you evaluate what you’re giving all of your time, energy, and attention to?
Have you spent adequate time reflecting on what you think this next season of your life could look like?
Are you experiencing any of the early signs of burnout?
I want to see you energized by what you’re doing in your life.
I want your purpose to be clear as you step into this next season.
I want you to be a life-giving person for the people you care about the most.
Find the rhythms and practices that can help you step back to move forward in your life.
What daily rhythms can you practice?
I currently wake up at 5am to enjoy silence, read Scripture, pray, and ask God for discernment. This gives me time each day to take a step back and consider what matters most for the day.
What weekly rhythms can you practice?
For Jews and Christians, this is where the idea of the Sabbath is so helpful. While we are all tempted to work constantly, our lives and our work will be better when we let it rest one day a week. During this season of my life, Saturday is my day for this. I don’t do any work for my “paid” job and I seek to engage in things that renew my mind, heart, and body.
What monthly rhythms can you practice?
Going into each new month, I create space to discern my top priorities for the coming month. When you think about the things that matter most, how should you prioritize your time, energy, and attention this month?
Though these practices are somewhat simple, most of us aren’t taking the time to engage in them. And it’s costing us our mental health, our relationships, and our peace. As you begin to practice these, I’d love to hear what you learn along the way.
I believe there’s so much in front of you…and it will go so much better if you have a regular practice of taking a step back.
I think you’ll find Bring It Out to be a great tool when it comes to helping you gain perspective and assess what really matters in your life. We’re only about a month away from its release date, but you can preorder it today: Bring It Out
