Maximizing Momentum

“Momentum is the force that propels your organization (or life) forward and is greater than the sum of all your leadership, strategy, and resources combined.” -Craig Groeschel

When momentum is present, you feel like you can’t lose.

When momentum is present, what was hard now seems easy.

When momentum is present, your confidence begins to soar.

I want to give you a framework that will help you maximize momentum in every area of your life.

Momentum Creators

These are the people, activities, decisions, and work that create momentum in any area of your life. They get the ball moving in the right direction. A new initiative at work or a new hire for a strategic role might create momentum in your company. Waking up 30 minutes earlier for quiet prayer and meditation could create momentum in your spiritual life. Setting aside an entire week just to write will create momentum for the book you’re hoping to publish one day.

Momentum Sustainers

These are the habits that sustain the momentum that’s already been created. A weekly date night helps to maintain intimacy in a marriage. Following up with a new customer in your business or a first-time guest in your church will keep them engaged with you after their initial experience. Sticking with a healthy eating plan after your initial weight loss will keep your body trending in the right direction.

Momentum Stallers

These are the things we do or more than likely the things we don’t do that keep our momentum from moving forward at the same rate of speed. Procrastination in any area of our lives will result in our momentum being stalled. When we move from being faith-filled to playing it safe, this will slow down our momentum. Decreasing the frequency of any good habit will also mean we’ll have to wait even longer to see what we’re hoping for.

Momentum Killers

These are the things that actually kill our momentum or at least cause the momentum to head towards death. When you stop doing what brought you success in the first place, momentum begins to die. If you hire the wrong person or start taking wisdom from someone foolish, your momentum is in jeopardy. If you begin to live with a negative mindset, this will surely kill any momentum that’s been present.

I want every person, activity, experience, and habit in my life to fall into only two of these categories: Momentum Creators and Momentum Sustainers. Let me encourage you to aim for this in your own life.

What would help you create momentum in key areas of your life?

What habits can help you sustain the momentum that’s already been created?

Is there anything you should address because it’s stalling your momentum?

What, if it doesn’t change, is on its way to kill your momentum?
