Intentional or Accidental

You are going to have a future. That isn’t the question; here’s the question: Are you going to arrive at your future destination by having a clear vision for it or because you chose to live in “default” mode?

Living out your God-given purpose never happens by accident.

You will not become an amazing husband or wife by chance.

You will not develop into a life-giving parent by coasting or taking it easy.

You will not influence the number of people you’re meant to in the way you could by going with the flow.

You can live your life aimlessly or you can aim your life in a specific direction. Where are you currently aiming your life? It is so easy for us to drift into what we’ve always done or even into what we feel like doing now. One of the best ways I have found to aim my life in a specific direction is to do the hard work of designing a life plan. I created my life plan close to 10 years ago. It has become a north star for me. It helps me stay on course and it gets me back on track when I have drifted away from it.

Create your ideal week. Even if you aren’t ready to invest the time necessary in creating a life plan, at least take the time to create your ideal week. Here are a few tips as you think about creating your ideal week so you can live with intention rather than by accident:

  • In this season, what are my highest priorities? Schedule these first.

  • Ask the question, “When am I at my best?” You’ll want to schedule your hardest work (that’s high on your priority list) during the time of day you are at your best. This is why I reserve almost every morning for content creation. It is hugely important for the work I’m called to do and it is very challenging work.

  • Calendar time with the most important people in your life. This could be your spouse, children, family, friends, work team, or anyone else who means a lot to you.

  • Determine when you’ll rest and recover this week. Yes, I mean sleep…but I also mean the days/times when you will be awake but not working.

Seize the opportunities. I think we all have plenty of regrets for times in the past when we didn’t make the most of what we could have. I’m tired of living with an “I wish I would have” mindset. The God who made you did so with great intention and He wants you to use that same kind of intention for how you pursue your purpose in life.

Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

What’s one way you can live with more intention this week? It’s always worth the time to think about how you want to aim your one precious life.

I might be biased, but I think Bring It Out will help you and the people you love be more intentional. Who might you buy a copy for to help them aim their life in this season
